My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action.
First Letter of John 3:18
Relay for Life
St. Paul’s sponsors a team, Angels of Hope, each year for the local Relay for Life. This is a fun-filled overnight event to honor cancer survivors and raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
Our members knit and crochet prayer shawls to spread the message of love and care at St. Paul’s. We give shawls for comfort, joy and celebration, appreciation and for other special reasons. The recipients have been friends and family, church family members, and people near and far, known and unknown by the knitters.

Neighbors in Need
A denominational offering that expresses the deep commitment of the UCC to reaching out and touching neighbors with justice and compassion.

One Great Hour of Sharing
Through this Lenten offering we support ministries of disaster relief, economic development, refugee resettlement, health care and social service in over 70 countries, including the US and Canada.

Friend Inc. Community Services
Friend serves the residents of northeastern Berks county providing a comprehensive range of family strengthening and outreach services through their partnership with countywide human service resources. Friend hosts support and parenting assistance groups, operates a food pantry for those who qualify, and provides emergency assistance to those in a time of need. We have helped staff the pantry, donated canned goods and books for their Summer Reading Project.

Reach Out and Read Program
Several of our members and friends of members sew book bags for this program of the Lehigh Valley Hospital. Children who come to the LVH’s Outpatient Pediatric Clinic at 17th & Chew for their well-child visits receive a book bag and a book. A volunteer reads to the children while they wait for their appointments. By the time the children enter school they will have 10 books of their own. Since 90% of the clinic’s 7,000 children are from low-income families, the books are a great incentive for them to come regularly for their medical check-ups.

Meals on Wheels
This service provides a hot and nutritious midday meal to homebound older adults aged 60 and older. Several of our members deliver meals.

Literacy Council of Reading-Berks
We financially support the Council’s work which includes adult literacy training, English conversation classes and citizenship classes.

Phoebe Ministries
Phoebe provides nursing and rehabilitation centers, assisted living communities, and health support services for older adults. We provide financial assistance to Phoebe.

The Salvation Army
The Army offers spiritual, emotional, physical and intellectual help and hope to people of all ages, races and cultural backgrounds. We support the Salvation Army with financial donations and children’s Christmas gifts through the Christmas Angels program. Some of our members also participate in the Red Kettle Program.

Opportunity House
We have an annual collection of personal care items for Opportunity House, homeless shelter and much more. Other services offered here include counseling, meals, laundry facilities, life skills classes, a clinic, child care, transitional housing and permanent housing for disabled adults. We have served meals at Opportunity House, donated cribs and given financial support.

Ronald McDonald House Charities
We participate in McDonald’s Pop Tab Collection Program. Millions of pop tabs have been recycled as a fundraising project of this worthwhile organization. Ronald McDonald Houses provide a “home-away-from-home” for the families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.
